Bank of Ireland has committed a €60 million investment to upgrade its ATMs and branches, aiming to enhance customer experience and environmental sustainability.

As part of this initiative, the bank is set to deploy a new fleet of 664 ATMs, each equipped with advanced cash processing capabilities. These upgraded machines are designed to significantly reduce energy consumption by more than 50%, aligning with Bank of Ireland’s commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals.

The multifunctional ATMs will cater to both withdrawals and lodgements, with a majority featuring cash recycling capabilities. This means that deposited cash can be utilized for subsequent withdrawals, contributing to more efficient cash circulation.

The investment covers not only the installation of the new ATMs but also includes provisions for servicing and maintenance over a span of five years.

In addition to the ATM upgrades, Bank of Ireland has plans to refurbish 18 out of its 182 branches this year, with additional branches slated for refurbishment in 2025. The branch refurbishments aim to provide customers with modern and inviting spaces for their banking needs.

Susan Russell, CEO of Bank of Ireland, Retail Ireland, expressed satisfaction with the investment, emphasizing the positive impact on customers across all regions. She highlighted the significance of the modernized and efficient ATMs in supporting the bank’s ESG ambitions, particularly in terms of energy reduction.

This strategic investment underscores Bank of Ireland’s commitment to technological innovation, customer convenience, and environmental responsibility, positioning itself for a more sustainable and customer-centric future.
