Bank of America has issued a warning to its customers regarding a data breach resulting from a security incident at Infosys McCamish Systems, a service provider for deferred compensation plans at the bank.
The cybersecurity event occurred around November 3, 2023, when unauthorized third parties gained access to systems managed by IMS.
Personal identifiable information (PII) of Bank of America customers compromised in the breach includes names, addresses, social security numbers, dates of birth, and financial details such as account and credit card numbers.
IMS has disclosed that the breach exposed the PII of 57,028 individuals. However, the company asserts that it has not found any evidence of ongoing access by threat actors, nor any presence of additional tools or persistent threats within the IMS environment.
As a precautionary measure, Bank of America is providing affected customers with complimentary two-year membership to identity theft protection services offered by Experian.
The bank has recently released statistics revealing that in 2023, clients interacted with their financial accounts more than 23.4 billion times, utilizing a combination of digital logins and proactive alerts. This marks an 11% increase compared to the previous year, setting an all-time record for client engagement with their finances.
