The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications has issued a stern warning that all Mobile Money (MoMo) agents failing to link their accounts to Ghana Cards or Tax Identification Numbers (TIN) will face account blocking starting from Thursday, February 1, 2024.

According to the Chamber, Electronic Money Issuers (EMIs) are required to ensure the completion of this linkage process by Wednesday, January 31, 2024, as mandated by the Ghana Revenue Authority.

In an official press release, the Chamber emphasized that after extensive discussions with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) regarding the linkage of agent accounts with Ghana cards or TIN, the GRA generously granted EMIs an extension until the end of Wednesday, January 31, 2024, to facilitate the linking process.

The release outlined, “All agent accounts without Ghana cards will be blocked on 1st February 2024.”

As a final call to action, the Chamber urged agents to promptly regularize their operations by linking their accounts with Ghana Cards or TIN before the deadline. Failure to comply by the end of Wednesday, January 31, 2023, will result in the automatic blocking of their accounts.

In the event of an account suspension on February 1, 2024, the Chamber informed that affected agents must visit any operator outlets with their Ghana card or TIN to complete the necessary process.

The Chamber reaffirmed its commitment to taking essential measures to provide convenient, secure, and accessible financial services to all Ghanaians.
