EqualyzAI, an innovative artificial intelligence startup, has launched a suite of AI-powered solutions designed to enhance accessibility for native African language speakers. With a mission to drive inclusivity, the company is developing AI models capable of understanding and interacting in local languages, ensuring that essential services are more widely available.
Advancing AI for African Languages
EqualyzAI is leveraging hyperlocal datasets and collaborating with native speakers to build AI solutions that reflect Africa’s linguistic and cultural diversity. The newly launched tools aim to transform education, data collection, and financial literacy:
- uLearn: An AI-powered assistant that helps educators create lesson plans, notes, and quizzes in both English and African languages, revolutionizing the learning experience.
- DataCollect: A data-gathering platform designed to develop diverse linguistic datasets, enabling AI tools to communicate effectively in multiple African languages.
- AfroSLM 1.0: A specialized small language model (SLM) focused on improving financial literacy in Yoruba and Hausa, making financial education more accessible.
A Vision for Inclusive AI
Speaking at the launch on the International Day of Mother Languages, EqualyzAI’s Co-founder and CEO, Dr. Olubayo Adekanmbi, emphasized the startup’s commitment to bridging Africa’s digital divide:
“Our mission is to ensure that AI speaks our languages, understands our contexts—whether in text, speech, images, or videos—and addresses our unique challenges. This is more than just technology; it’s about empowerment and inclusion. At EqualyzAI, we are creating AI solutions trained on African realities to ensure no one is left behind.”
A Transformative Initiative for Africa
Founded in January 2023 by Dr. Olubayo Adekanmbi (CEO) and Dr. Ife Adebara (CTO), EqualyzAI aims to process over 75 African languages, each spoken by at least a million people. By integrating AI into real-world applications, the company is reshaping digital interactions and ensuring that millions across the continent benefit from technological advancements.
