The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has partnered with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to launch the WE Finance Code initiative, aimed at bolstering women’s financial inclusion and economic empowerment in Egypt. Governor Hassan Abdullah signed the initiative’s charter, which will also increase funding availability for women-led micro, medium, and small-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the country.

This initiative, announced in a recent statement, aims to provide essential technical support to enhance the capabilities of the Egyptian banking sector and financial service providers. The initiative will be implemented in coordination with the Egyptian Banking Institute and various banks and stakeholders across Egypt.

The Women Entrepreneurship Finance Initiative (We-Fi) is a global partnership hosted by the World Bank Group, involving 14 governments, 8 multilateral development banks, and various public and private stakeholders. The EBRD has launched this initiative not only in Egypt but also in Morocco and Jordan, with the goal of supporting women entrepreneurs and facilitating their access to financial resources.

Through the WE Finance Code initiative, the CBE and EBRD aim to foster a more inclusive financial environment, thereby promoting the growth and sustainability of women-led enterprises in Egypt.
