Zimbabwe’s largest mobile network operator Econet Wireless, has announced plans to deploy 130 new base stations by the end of the year, adding to its already impressive network.
The company says it will at the same time upgrade its existing 2G and 3G sites to 4G in the period.
Econet Chief Operating Officer Kezito Makuni said, “We are increasing our network capacity by upgrading our 3G sites to LTE (or 4G). We are also expanding our network coverage to areas where we previously had limited or no coverage. A total of 130 sites are being rolled out over a 90-day period as we speak. We are excited that we are able to give our customers an early Christmas present.”
Makuni also said the upgrade work will increase Econet’s network capacity allowing the telco to offer super-fast internet speeds, great voice quality and reduced dropped calls to customers in various geographical regions, reported The Chronicle.
