Djibouti Telecom builds new submarine cable landing station

Djibouti Telecom, has announced it has begun construction of new submarine cable landing station (CLS) Djibouti City.

The company has network infrastructure comprising 8 operational submarine cable systems, 5 on-project cable systems and 2 existing Cable Landing Stations.

A company statement says, the new Cable Landing Station will be a neutral digital port which will provide an open access cable landing service to submarine cable operators for a neutral, safe and secure landing.

The new state-of-the-art building will consist of 3 floors with each floor having a 250 square meter equipment room designed with the latest technology offering unparalleled operating efficiency and security to host multiple cables.

Djibouti Telecom breaks ground on new CLS

The new CLS will be equipped with advanced security equipment, techniques and procedures to control access to the premise. Furthermore, the 3rd floor will be reserved for Colocation.

This neutral colocation center will allow GAFAM or Cloud providers to host their servers closer to their African users. The New CLS is expected to be completed by April 2022.

During the past 10 years, Djibouti Telecom have invested over $200 million in new Submarine Cables and Terrestrial Networks to deal with the explosion of Internet traffic in Africa, which is increasing tenfold every five years.

With the new cable landing station under construction, “Djibouti Telecom is building a real digital platform for the region”, commented Mohamed Assoweh Bouh, Director General of Djibouti Telecom.

Djibouti Telecom SA was founded in 1999 and is Djibouti’s main telecommunications company, providing landline, mobile, and internet services. The company is headquartered in Djibouti City.
