By setting up a set of digital projects, the Angolan executive expects to be able to satisfy citizens in their search for electronic services, namely to facilitate the obtaining of certain public services.

The Angolan government will invest $89 million to build the national cloud infrastructure, train technicians, store and unify government services. This was announced on Thursday, February 16, 2023 by Mário de Oliveira, the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Social Communication, during the official launch of the national project to implement the country’s cloud infrastructure.

This is a unified government cloud built on government data centers to provide more than 80 services,” said Mário de Oliveira, noting that the project also includes the migration of existing applications and the implementation of new applications for the unified government cloud.

According to the director of the National Institute for the Promotion of the Information Society (INFOSI), André Pedro, the project provides for the construction of two data centers. These data centers will occupy an area of 5,320 square meters, will house 204 server cabinets, promoting a reduction in costs in the government’s functional electronic communications machines.

This technological project will also complement the dedicated network of the Angolan State, which interconnects all ministerial departments and the National Assembly, in a fiber ring with a capacity of 50 GB. The project should be implemented within the next 15 months and concluded between February and March 2024.

It should be noted that the project is the result of a memorandum of understanding signed in December 2021 between the Angolan government and the United Arab Emirates, operationalized between the multinational Presight and the Ministry of Telecommunications. It will be carried out by INFOSI with the assistance of the ministry.

According to Mário de Oliveira, the project aims to promote the digital development of the national economy, bring citizens closer to government actions, cultivate local talent in the use of ICT and cloud services, as well as lay the foundations for digital transformation in Angolan industry.
