Africa: Women Power- MTN announces new leadership in Uganda, Rwanda and Cameroon

MTN, Africa’s largest wireless carrier has announced the appointment of women Chief Executive Officers in Cameroon, Rwanda and Uganda, to support the accelerated execution of the company’s ‘Ambition 2025‘ strategy.

The telco also announced the creation of a new senior MTN Group post: that of Operations Executive for Liberia, Guinea-Conakry, Guinea-Bissau, and Congo-Brazzaville effective 1 August 2022, reporting to the Senior Vice President: Markets, Ebenezer Asante -Twum.

“The appointment of these executives, all with strong track records of execution and results, adds to our confidence on delivery of our Ambition 2025 strategy,”said MTN Group President and CEO Ralph Mupita.

Sylvia Wairimu Mulinge has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer for MTN Uganda effective October 1, 2022.

She replaces outgoing Chief Executive Officer Wim Vanhelleputte, whose tenure with the telco ended on 31 July 2022, a statement, said.

Mulinge joins MTN from Kenya’s leading network operator Safaricom, where she currently is Chief Consumer Business Officer.

As she only begins her tenure in October 2022, MTN Uganda said, in the interim, the current Chief Financial Officer, Andrew Bugembe, has been appointed as Acting Chief Executive Officer effective August 1, 2022 until September 30, 2022.

Mitwa Ng’ambi CEO MTN Cameroon

MTN also announced the appointment of Mitwa Ng’ambi as the new CEO of MTN Cameroon, with effect from 1 September 2022. She will be succeeding Stephen Blewett who is leaving the Group for other career opportunities.

Ng’ambi who is currently the CEO of MTN Rwanda has been with the company for a cumulative 10 years and has also worked in the Benin and Zambia operations, a company statement said.

During her time, Ng’ambi led industry transformative initiatives for digital penetration and financial inclusion and oversaw the listing of MTN Rwanda on the stock exchange and establishment of its Fintech subsidiary, noted the statement.

Mapula Bodibe CEO MTN Rwanda

Another incoming CEO is Mapula Bodibe, the current Chief Consumer Officer of MTN South Africa, takes over as head of MTN Rwanda, bringing with her over 15 years of experience with MTN, including in Uganda.

MTN said Bodibe has a strong background in business strategy, consumer marketing, customer strategy,brand management and communication , product management and customer analysis.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing and an MBA, all from the University of South Africa.
