At the launch event, UBA’s Group Managing Director/CEO, Oliver Alawuba, highlighted that the new card not only honors UBA’s commitment to long-standing customer relationships but also enhances their banking experience with unique perks. Among these are limited-time benefits such as a 25% discount on purchases via Jumia and a $75 cashback on transactions made through AliExpress.

Alawuba noted that the initiative reflects a shared vision between UBA and Mastercard to empower customers across Africa with secure and convenient financial solutions. “This card represents the strengthening of our relationship and our joint mission to empower millions of Nigerians and Africans by facilitating access to secure, efficient transactions and expanded opportunities,” he stated.

The bank also plans to launch similar products in all its African subsidiaries, reinforcing its commitment to innovation across the continent. “We are proud of this partnership, and we are confident in Mastercard’s expanding role in Africa in the years to come,” Alawuba added.

Mark Elliott, Division President for Africa at Mastercard, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, emphasizing its role in supporting Africa’s digital economy. “This commemorative card is more than a product—it embodies our dedication to advancing financial inclusion and providing secure, impactful financial solutions for Africans,” he said.

Elliott further underscored the vast potential of Africa’s payments ecosystem, noting that Mastercard looks forward to exploring new opportunities with UBA. “Together, we are committed to delivering innovations that address the region’s evolving needs, empower individuals, and drive digital growth across the continent,” he concluded.
