Seamfix, a leading provider of digital identity solutions globally, has successfully secured a $4.5 million investment from Alitheia IDF, a gender lens investing fund. This private equity funding round will be instrumental in scaling Seamfix’s technology infrastructure, enhancing data flow for continental trade and integration, and extending its digital ID and credential services into five new African countries.

Initially launched in Nigeria, Seamfix offers identity creation, verification, and transaction accreditation solutions for large organizations and government agencies across various African nations. This funding marks Seamfix’s first institutional investment and will facilitate its expansion into Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Ethiopia, and Uganda.

Digital ID and verification systems play a crucial role in unlocking significant economic value across Africa’s growing digital societies. They contribute to financial participation, government service efficiency, public health, and job creation. Reports indicate that African countries implementing effective digital ID systems could boost their GDP by up to 13 percent.

Since its inception by Chimezie Emewulu and Chibuzor Onwurah, Seamfix has been a leader in delivering end-to-end digital ID and credential solutions, connecting businesses and individuals to identity databases across Africa and globally.

The company has partnered with organizations such as Veremark, Nigeria’s National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), major telcos (MTN, Glo, Airtel, and 9 Mobile), and financial institutions (United Bank for Africa, Interswitch, and Union Bank) to provide seamless creation, verification, and access to trusted digital identities and services.

Seamfix’s notable achievements include developing a digital solution enabling widespread access to National Identification Numbers (NINs) for over 100 million Nigerians. The company also assisted Nigerian telecommunications service providers in registering and verifying a database of over 200 million Subscriber Identification Modules (SIMs) to comply with regulations.

Furthermore, Seamfix collaborates with major telcos across Africa, assisting with SIM registration, verification, and linkage to national identities. Additionally, thousands of fintechs and SMEs rely on Seamfix’s verification APIs for KYC checks during customer onboarding and employee background checks.

Seamfix’s digital credential platform has revolutionized the credential issuance and certification process for multiple African universities, enabling instant issuance of verifiable credentials and reducing certification processing time from over six months to a few days. This transformation has led to over 2,000 percent growth in internally generated revenue at these universities.

Chimezie Emewulu, Group CEO, and co-founder of Seamfix expressed excitement about the new funding, emphasizing Seamfix’s commitment to shaping the future of digital ID verification in Africa. He highlighted digital identity as a fundamental right and expressed gratitude for Alitheia IDF’s support in realizing Seamfix’s vision.

Seamfix welcomes two new board members, Tokunboh Ishmael, and Frank Atube. Tokunboh Ishmael, Principal Partner at Alitheia IDF, emphasized the importance of digital IDs in unlocking economic potential and empowering women in emerging economies. The investment reaffirms Alitheia IDF’s commitment to enabling millions of women to participate in the African economy and access opportunities through crucial identification services.
