In a major stride toward securing Africa’s digital ecosystem, Kaspersky has entered into a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Smart Africa. This strategic alliance aims to enhance cybersecurity resilience, promote workforce development, and advance gender inclusion within the digital security sector.

Advancing Cybersecurity Skills and Gender Inclusion

A key component of this collaboration is human capacity development, with Kaspersky leveraging its Kaspersky Academy to provide specialized cybersecurity training. The initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to increase female participation in cybersecurity, STEM, and ICT, empowering more women to pursue careers in digital security.

Establishing a Unified Cybersecurity Framework

Beyond skills enhancement, the partnership focuses on creating standardized cybersecurity policies across African nations. Through close collaboration with cybersecurity authorities, law enforcement agencies, and industry stakeholders, the initiative seeks to develop a harmonized regulatory framework that strengthens Africa’s cyber resilience.

Enhancing Africa’s Cyber Defenses

The partnership also prioritizes technological advancements to counteract cyber threats. Key initiatives include:

  • Establishing Security Operation Centers (SOCs)
  • Setting up Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTs)
  • Providing expert consultancy to mitigate financial crime and cyber risks

Lacina Koné, CEO of Smart Africa, underscored the significance of this collaboration:

“This MoU is a milestone in securing Africa’s digital landscape. By working with Kaspersky, we are equipping individuals with vital cybersecurity skills, bridging gender gaps, and fostering regional cooperation to strengthen cyber infrastructure.”

Eugene Kaspersky, Founder and CEO of Kaspersky, emphasized the company’s commitment:

“Our collaboration with Smart Africa is a vital step toward creating a secure and digitally inclusive continent. This partnership will empower businesses and individuals to navigate the digital world safely and confidently.”

A Coordinated Approach to Cybersecurity

This initiative aligns with the African Network of Cybersecurity Authorities (ANCA), a Smart Africa-led effort bringing together cybersecurity regulators to address evolving cyber threats. With a vision of a digitally secure and inclusive Africa, this partnership reinforces the continent’s leadership in cybersecurity innovation and regulatory compliance.
