Chpter, an innovative AI-powered conversational commerce platform designed to help merchants enhance sales through social platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram, has successfully raised $1.2 million in its Pre-Seed funding round.

The funding round was led by Ken Njoroge of PANI, Co-founder and former CEO of Cellulant, with participation from prominent investors including Plesion Capital, Techstars, Norrsken, Renew Capital, ViKtoria Ventures, and angel investors like Benjamin Fernandes, Founder and CEO of NALA, as well as Paul Kimani and Jackson Kibigo, Co-founders of Workpay.

Tesh Mbaabu, Co-Founder and CEO of Chpter, expressed his excitement about the funding, stating, “We are thrilled to lead the social commerce revolution in Africa as more consumers increasingly rely on platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok to communicate and make purchases from their favorite brands. WhatsApp, in particular, plays a crucial role in business communication, offering an unmatched platform for businesses to support customers, engage in sales conversations, and nurture customer relationships.”

Launched in Kenya in 2022, Chpter plans to utilize this new capital to focus on three key areas: (i) Accelerating the development of its conversational commerce platform, (ii) Expanding its product availability across more countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, and (iii) Strengthening its sales and marketing efforts to meet the growing demand from top brands.

Chpter’s platform enables businesses to tap into the power of social media to drive sales by engaging customers directly where they spend most of their time. It fosters stronger customer relationships through personalized marketing and streamlines customer interactions across multiple platforms via a unified dashboard.

Moreover, Chpter has introduced chpter.AI, an AI-powered chatbot and sales agent, designed to ensure no sales opportunities are missed. This tool provides faster responses to customer inquiries, significantly increasing sales conversion rates.

Currently operating in Kenya and South Africa, Chpter supports hundreds of businesses across various sectors, including ecommerce and retail, financial services, education, media and entertainment, travel and hospitality, and health and wellness.
