The African Union Development Agency – NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD) is set to enhance transparency and accountability in Africa’s infrastructure development through the launch of a real-time digital dashboard to track major infrastructure projects under PIDA PAP II.

Announced at a recent workshop in Addis Ababa, this initiative aims to address persistent challenges such as delays, cost overruns, and inefficiencies in project execution. The open-access digital platform will allow governments, investors, and the public to monitor project progress in real-time, fostering greater transparency in infrastructure development.

Key Features of the Digital Dashboard

The dashboard will provide critical insights into Africa’s infrastructure landscape by:

  • Tracking project progress to ensure timely implementation.
  • Identifying financing gaps that may hinder development.
  • Pinpointing bottlenecks that delay project completion.
  • Facilitating evidence-based decision-making for stakeholders.

Driving Accountability in Infrastructure Development

Senior AUDA-NEPAD official Yones Touitha emphasized the importance of this initiative in ensuring greater accountability and efficiency in Africa’s infrastructure sector.

“This initiative will enable evidence-based decision-making and allow stakeholders to track projects more effectively,” Touitha stated.

The launch of the digital dashboard aligns with AUDA-NEPAD’s broader strategy to leverage digital technology for improving project management and stakeholder engagement across the continent.

Challenges and the Road Ahead

While the initiative marks a significant step toward enhanced transparency, its success will depend on the full adoption and utilization by African governments and key stakeholders. Ensuring the system remains functional, regularly updated, and integrated into existing governance frameworks will be essential for its long-term impact.

Experts highlight that technology alone is not enough to resolve Africa’s infrastructure challenges. Strong political commitment, efficient project management, and sustained financial backing will be critical in maximizing the benefits of the digital dashboard and driving Africa’s infrastructure agenda forward.
