Mexico City-based fintech Kapital has raised $100 million in a Series D funding round as the AI-powered financial platform for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) moves into its next phase of growth across key markets.
The round was led by Tru Arrow Partners and Fasanara Capital, with Cervin Ventures, Niya Partners and Overlook Capital also participating.
The latest financing comes after Kapital raised another $100 million in Series C funding in September last year, a round that doubled the company’s valuation to $1.3 billion. The valuation attached to the latest funding round was not disclosed.
Kapital expands AI-powered banking for SMBs
Kapital was established as a technology-first bank focused on helping SMBs access capital and manage their financial operations more efficiently.
The fintech provides services designed to support businesses with capital access, loans and cash-flow management across Mexico and Colombia.
The company has now secured 350,000 customers across Latin America, Spain and the United States, giving it an expanding presence across several markets.
René Saúl, CEO and co-founder of Kapital, said the new capital would enable the company to accelerate growth while expanding its reach in priority markets.
“As Kapital continues to grow profitably and increase the operating leverage of our business, this new capital will allow us to accelerate our next phase of growth and expand our impact in priority markets such as Mexico and the United States,” Saúl said.
Strong financial performance supports expansion
Kapital enters its latest growth phase following a strong set of second-quarter financial results.
The institution reported approximately $50 million in net income during the quarter, while its loan portfolio grew by 220% year-on-year to more than $1.7 billion.
Deposits also recorded significant growth, increasing by 234% to exceed $3.5 billion.
The results highlight the rapid expansion of Kapital’s lending and deposit operations as it continues to build its technology-driven financial services platform.
The latest funding is expected to provide additional capital for the company to expand its operations and deepen its presence in priority markets, particularly Mexico and the United States.
Kapital’s growth also reflects the increasing role of AI and technology-led financial platforms in serving SMBs, a segment that continues to require more accessible tools for financing, cash-flow management and broader business operations.
