MDU Capital receives SEC licence to operate as fund and portfolio manager

Magen Doxa Umerim (MDU) Capital Limited has received approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to operate as a licensed fund and portfolio manager in Nigeria’s capital market, with the authorisation taking effect from 28 July 2026.

The regulatory approval marks a significant milestone for the investment firm, enabling it to provide professionally managed investment services within Nigeria’s regulated financial services ecosystem.

According to the company, the licence reinforces its commitment to professionalism, corporate governance, regulatory compliance and helping clients build, preserve and manage long-term wealth.

SEC approval expands investment management services

With the SEC licence, MDU Capital is authorised to offer regulated fund management and portfolio management solutions to a broad range of clients, including individual investors, corporate organisations, institutional investors and members of the Nigerian diaspora.

The company stated that the approval strengthens its capacity to deliver investment solutions that comply with Nigeria’s regulatory framework while meeting the evolving financial needs of its clients.

Headquartered in Yaba, Lagos, MDU Capital said it will leverage experienced investment professionals, disciplined research, effective risk management practices and technology-driven investment solutions to provide transparent and efficient portfolio management services.

Commitment to governance and regulatory compliance

The firm noted that its operations will be guided by strong corporate governance principles, accountability and compliance with the Securities and Exchange Commission’s regulatory requirements.

According to the company, the SEC approval positions MDU Capital to contribute to deeper participation in Nigeria’s capital market by expanding access to professionally managed investment products and services.

“With the SEC approval now in place, MDU Capital is positioned to deepen access to professionally managed investments while maintaining high standards of accountability, regulatory compliance and client service,” the company said in a statement.

The development reflects the continued importance of effective regulatory oversight, compliance management and sound governance in strengthening investor confidence and supporting the growth of Nigeria’s capital market.
