Visa has launched Visa Pay, a mobile-based payment and money transfer solution in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), designed to provide secure, interoperable digital transactions for both banked and unbanked consumers.
The platform enables users to send, receive, and transfer funds across participating banks and mobile networks, with near real-time account-to-account transactions available in both Congolese francs (CDF) and US dollars. Additional features include mobile-first enrolment, fraud prevention tools, virtual card support for online payments, and cash-in/cash-out services at partner bank branches.
Developed in collaboration with eight financial institutions—Access Banque, BGFI, Equity Bank, FBN, Sofibanque, Solidaire Banque, TMB, and UBA—Visa Pay is accessible as a standalone app on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, and can also be integrated into existing banking applications.
Sophie Kafuti, General Manager for Visa DRC, highlighted the strategic importance of the rollout:
“The launch is part of our commitment to driving innovative solutions as a catalyst for greater financial inclusion, helping to provide broader access to the digital economy. Through Visa Pay, we aim to stimulate economic growth and position the DRC as a regional leader in financial technology.”
By combining Visa’s global payment infrastructure with local banking partnerships, Visa Pay is set to expand financial access for individuals and businesses while strengthening the country’s digital economy.
