Bamboo, a pioneering Nigerian fintech firm, has reached a significant milestone by acquiring a U.S. broker-dealer license through its affiliate, Bamboo Securities L.L.C. This achievement positions Bamboo as the first financial institution from Nigeria to secure such a license, heralding a transformative moment for Africa’s financial ecosystem.

Expanding Access to U.S. Markets

With this license, Bamboo now provides seamless access to the U.S. stock market for corporate clients, retail investors, and licensed brokers across Africa. Announcing the news on its social media platform X, the company stated:

“Licensed brokers across Africa can now provide their clients access to the U.S. stock market. Corporate clients and retail customers can also enjoy seamless U.S. market access.”

This development empowers Bamboo to collaborate with licensed broker-dealers across Africa, enhancing its business-to-business (B2B) offerings and enabling more businesses to integrate U.S. investment opportunities into their platforms.

Advancing Bamboo’s Vision

The U.S. broker-dealer license grants Bamboo Securities L.L.C. the authority to offer African investors access to U.S. securities, aligning with its mission to democratize global investment opportunities. The company expressed its commitment in a statement:

“This license makes it even easier for Africans to invest in U.S. securities.”

In an email to its users, Bamboo celebrated the achievement as a testament to its mission and expressed gratitude to its community for their trust and support over the past five years.

A Game-Changer for African Investors

Founded in January 2019 by CEO Richmond Bassey and COO Yanmo Omorogbe, Bamboo has revolutionized investing for Africans. The platform enables users to buy, hold, and sell U.S. stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and American Depositary Receipts (ADRs). It also provides access to equities on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, granting exposure to over 6,000 companies worldwide.

Bamboo’s inclusive approach caters to diverse socioeconomic groups, offering Africans a reliable way to invest in foreign stocks, build wealth, and earn foreign currency. With over 300,000 accounts and growing, the platform continues to gain traction among retail investors seeking global investment opportunities.

A Bright Future for African Investments

This historic milestone solidifies Bamboo’s role as a leader in the African fintech space, paving the way for enhanced financial inclusion and global market access. By bridging the gap between Africa and international markets, Bamboo is shaping a future where African investors can confidently participate in the global economy.
