Rack Centre, the leading Tier III Carrier and cloud-neutral data centre in West Africa, has expanded its interconnection services through a new partnership with TelCables Nigeria, a subsidiary of Angola Cables. This collaboration introduces a new Point of Presence (PoP) at Rack Centre’s facility, aimed at improving digital infrastructure and connectivity across West Africa.

The arrival of TelCables Nigeria at Rack Centre is expected to significantly enhance low-latency interconnectivity and Cloud access, which will play a crucial role in advancing the region’s digital ecosystem.

Lars Johannisson, CEO of Rack Centre, welcomed the new collaboration, noting the ongoing expansion of Rack Centre’s Lagos campus. The near-completion of the LGS 2 Data Centre will boost the facility’s capacity to 13.5MW of IT power and 7,200 square meters of space. Johannisson emphasized the importance of this development for Africa’s digital future, stating, “This is a major step for Africa’s digital development. The infrastructure to drive digital ecosystems, foster innovation, and stimulate economic growth in Nigeria and across the continent is now within reach.”

He further highlighted that the LGS 2 Data Centre is being developed to be AI-ready, supporting enhanced data processing and storage capabilities. This is especially important for businesses and organizations adopting artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). Johannisson added, “Once complete, operators like TelCables, hyperscalers, telecom providers, and businesses will have access to secure, world-class, carrier-neutral, and cloud-neutral infrastructure, enabling them to scale their digital operations. This will be a key driver of economic growth in Nigeria and the broader West African region.”

Fernando Fernandes, CEO of TelCables Nigeria and West Africa, emphasized the strategic value of the partnership, noting, “Our collaboration with Rack Centre is part of a greater vision to contribute to Africa’s future prosperity within the evolving digital economy. Together, we are setting the course for a more connected and thriving continent.”

The new Point of Presence (PoP) is part of a broader effort to enhance digital connectivity in West Africa, leveraging the Angola Cables backbone network to provide businesses and communities with more affordable and efficient access to digital content and services. With the SACS and WACS subsea cable systems from Angola Cables, the new PoP will facilitate efficient routing of data traffic to South America, the U.S., and Europe via the EllaLink subsea cable. This advanced infrastructure not only improves routing efficiency but also offers redundancy, enhancing the resilienceand reliability of the network.

Rack Centre is recognized for its outstanding Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.35, the lowest in West Africa, and its commitment to sustainability. The LGS 2 Data Centre is a model of innovation and green practices, contributing to the company’s reputation as a leader in sustainable digital infrastructure.

In June 2022, Rack Centre earned the distinction of becoming the first International Finance Corporation (IFC) EDGE-certified data centre in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region, with LGS 2 being the first green-certified data centre in Africa. It is also the most connected data centre in the region, linking all countries along Africa’s Atlantic coast, according to its PeeringDB ranking.
