The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is set to inaugurate its Annual Taxpayer’s Month, featuring the unveiling of its online auction and the introduction of a Tax Amnesty, as a gesture of gratitude towards taxpayers.
Annually, KRA observes the Taxpayer’s Month to express its appreciation to compliant taxpayers who have demonstrated patriotism by diligently fulfilling their tax obligations during the 2022/2023 financial year.
Throughout the month of October, this celebration will encompass customer-centric activities nationwide, including visits to acknowledge taxpayers, taxpayer education initiatives, the Annual Tax Summit, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) engagements.
An integral part of the Taxpayers’ Month is the launch of the online auction, a departure from its previous format as a physical event exclusively held in Nairobi and Mombasa.
As a demonstration of its appreciation, KRA encourages taxpayers to leverage the Tax Amnesty introduced under the Finance Act 2023. This amnesty covers all taxpayers with accrued penalties and interests as of December 31st, 2022. Taxpayers are afforded the opportunity, from September 1, 2023, to June 2024, to settle their principal tax, with all associated penalties and interests waived.
The pinnacle of the 2023 Taxpayers’ Month will be an awards ceremony honoring outstanding taxpayers who upheld tax compliance during the year 2022. This ceremony will be presided over by President Dr. William Ruto.
Moreover, the Taxpayers’ Month serves as a platform to encourage citizens to maintain tax compliance, contribute to the national budget, and play their part in sustaining the economy.
The official launch will be conducted by Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury & Economic Planning, Njuguna Ndung’u, alongside KRA Board Chairman Anthony Mwaura and KRA Commissioner General Humphrey Wattanga, with the presence of distinguished guests from both the private and public sectors.
