The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) have taken a significant step towards accelerating the digitisation reform process within the government. The Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta, and the Director-General of BPSR, Dr Dasuki Arabi, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize their collaboration in this transformative endeavor.
During an event held at NCC’s Head Office in Abuja, Prof. Danbatta highlighted that the MoU would improve efficiency and productivity in the government’s operations. Emphasizing the commission’s commitment to advancing broadband penetration, he underscored its role as the foundation on which the digitisation process would thrive.
In a statement released by NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka, it was noted that the transition to a paperless system of governance and administration would bring about enhanced efficiency. With the completion of the digitisation process, the government’s operations would become paperless, allowing chief executive officers and officials to handle emails and documents seamlessly through online platforms.
Dr. Dasuki Arabi, Director-General of BPSR, highlighted that the collaboration with NCC was driven by the agency’s recognition as the first organisation to win the Platinum Award of BPSR. The partnership between the two entities commenced in 2016 when NCC voluntarily underwent the BPSR online Self-Assessment Tool, ultimately earning the prestigious Platinum Organisation rating for exceptional performance across nine domain areas.
This move towards digitisation marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s government operations, aligning with global trends and embracing emerging technologies for greater efficiency and transparency. The joint efforts of NCC and BPSR are expected to usher in a new era of digital transformation, streamlining processes and promoting a paperless government for enhanced service delivery.
