The Ministry of Information, Communication, and Technology in Kenya has reported a major milestone in the digitization of government services. According to its latest one-year performance scorecard, approximately 50 percent of all government services have been fully digitized.

Out of a total of 9,362 identified state services, 5,084 services are now fully digitized. Additionally, 2,555 services have been partially digitized, indicating significant progress in the government’s efforts to embrace digital transformation.

The Ministry highlighted that when it took over the e-citizen platform, only 350 services were onboarded. However, over time, the government has prioritized the digitalization of various sectors to enhance efficiency and reduce bureaucracy.

Key priority areas for digitalization include Health, Lands, Kenya Revenue Authority, Transport, Education, Border Control, Citizen Services, and Cabinet services.

The move towards digitalization aims to address the issue of slow and inefficient service delivery in government establishments, often attributed to outdated and bureaucratic processes. By adopting modern technology solutions, the Kenyan government seeks to improve service delivery, streamline processes, and minimize corruption.

Already, citizens have experienced the benefits of these tech-driven solutions, with government services like passport applications becoming more efficient and timely.

The Ministry’s commitment to embracing digital transformation is expected to have a far-reaching impact, enhancing citizen satisfaction, and promoting transparency in the government’s operations. With continuous efforts in the digitization journey, Kenya is steadily advancing towards a more streamlined and accessible digital government service landscape.
