Zoom-like platform Butter said it has secured US$3.2 million in a seed round led by Project A, a European seed and series A fund.
Several angel investors also joined in the round, including Ross Sheil, Head of startup partners at Stripe, and Bjarke Staun, an angel investor and ex-principal at Creandum.
Intercom’s co-founder Des Traynor, Kry and Livi co-founder Johannes Schildt, Dixa founder Mads Fosselius, Opbeat co-founder Ron Cohen, and Nordic Web Ventures founder Neil Murray also took part in the round.
Founded in 2020, Butter aims to empower workshop facilitators – including strategy consultants, design sprinters, and HR trainers, among others – to make virtual workshops more interactive.
Often, facilitators are frustrated with needing to switch between different tools in one session and have a hard time keeping the energy level up during a workshop, Butter pointed out.
The company’s all-in-one workshop video app addresses the issue through integrations with collaboration tools like Miro and Google Drive, preset agendas, polls, and breakout rooms, as well as interactive elements like reactions and a chat feature.
Butter will take the fresh capital and build out a full workshop suite that allows facilitators to prep, run, and manage the entire workshop directly from the app.
The company was founded by Jakob Knutzen and Christopher Holm-Hansen, who are from Denmark, and Malaysian national Adam Wan. Its team consists of members from Asia, Europe, Africa, and the US.
“Remote complex collaboration is here to stay. We believe that Covid-19 truly showed to the world that we’re able to work together, even though we’re not sitting next to each other. With Butter, we’re building the future of remote collaboration,” said Knutzen.
