5 African startups win award at the Siemens Stiftung competition for e-mobility solutions

The Siemens Stiftung competition on electric mobility solutions made in Africa for Africa awarded  5 outstanding Africans with prize money ranging from €10,000 to €50,000. The funds will go towards product development, service expansion, and creating a strong market presence.

Apart from the innovative solutions, the winners stand out for their sustainable and inclusive business models. Over 100 applications from 19 African countries were submitted. Winners were determined by a jury panel with extensive experience and expertise.

The winners are MicroMek Ltd from Malawi (3D-printed transport drones made from locally recycled materials), BEAM Sarl from Burkina Faso (mobile-powered solar platform), Greenfoot Africa Ltd from Tanzania (perishable food marketplace app), SolarTaxi from Ghana (an e-mobility transportation company), and ThinkBikes Ltd from Nigeria electric bicycles for school institutions.

Rolf Huber, the MD of Siemens Stiftung attributed the large number of applications he received to the “huge social and economic potential of innovative technical solutions related to electric mobility.”
