Google Pay now allows users in India to carry out UPI transactions via NFC on their phones.

According to techradar.com, Google Pay users in India who wanted to transfer money for purchases at merchant establishments through their smart phones had to scan the relevant QR code or type in the UPI ID of the merchant.

According to the Google Pay Support page, currently only Pine Lab terminals work with UPI payments over NFC, however, support for other terminals is expected. Recently, Google Pay has also added credit and debit cards to the list of payment methods as an alternative to paying directly from a linked bank account.

Currently, Google Pay supports Axis Bank credit and debit cards as well as SBI credit cards in India, and going forward, more credit and debit card providers are expected to be on boarded.
