CanalBox, a leading provider of fibre optic Internet solutions, has launched its new broadband services in Uganda, promising a faster and more reliable internet experience for Ugandan homes.

Utilizing advanced fibre optic technology, CanalBox offers two competitively priced plans designed to provide high-speed internet at a fraction of the cost of current market options. The “Start” plan is available for UGX 110,000 ($29.79) per month, while the “Premium” plan is offered at UGX 200,000 ($54.17) per month—both of which are up to five times cheaper than existing market rates.

Jean-François Duboy, Managing Director of GVA, emphasized that the launch of CanalBox’s fibre optic service represents a significant step towards making high-quality internet accessible to more Ugandans. “Our goal is to democratize access to broadband internet through our fibre optic technology. With our competitive pricing, high speeds, and exceptional value, CanalBox is set to make a substantial impact on internet accessibility for families across Uganda,” Duboy stated.

Thomas Tayebwa, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, expressed strong support for CanalBox’s initiative, highlighting it as a key component of the government’s Vision 2040 strategy to expand broadband coverage. He commended GVA for its ongoing investments in fibre optic infrastructure and urged the company to provide zero-rate access to educational websites. This move aims to facilitate access to online learning resources for children in Wakiso and surrounding areas, aligning with Uganda’s recent digital village initiatives and the introduction of iris verification for enhanced security.

Tayebwa remarked, “The government is dedicated to increasing broadband penetration as part of Vision 2040, and we appreciate GVA’s commitment to long-term investments in fibre optic technology. We also encourage CanalBox to ensure that educational websites are accessible without additional costs to support our children’s learning opportunities.”

Since its establishment, GVA has made significant strides in the media and communications sectors, expanding its portfolio to include notable companies such as Canal+ Group, Lagardère, Havas, Prisma Media, and Gameloft.

In the past 11 months alone, GVA has successfully connected over 5,000 homes to CanalBox’s fibre optic internet service. With Kampala now being the 13th city and Uganda the 8th African country to benefit from CanalBox’s offerings, the company is poised to further its mission of enhancing internet access across the continent.

Key Features of CanalBox’s Fibre Optic Internet Services:

  • High-Speed Internet: Utilizes advanced fibre optic technology for superior speed and reliability.
  • Affordable Plans: Two budget-friendly options—“Start” for UGX 110,000 per month and “Premium” for UGX 200,000 per month.
