MTN has been voted South Africa’s best network in the fourth quarter of 2021 achieving a network quality score of 9.50, in comparison to its nearest competitor Vodacom which scored 6.11.

This is according to the latest figures released by independent provider MyBroadband in its latest survey. The statistics are based on Network Quality Score using download speed, upload speed, and latency.

Network Quality scores are allocated to each network based on performance with a maximum possible score of 10.

“Our customers have come to expect only the very best network from MTN, and we are delighted to have once again delivered the nation’s best coverage, speeds and quality. We remain committed to driving digital and financial inclusion, accelerating broadband connectivity and working to help drive the economic recovery of Mzansi,” said Jacqui O’Sullivan, Corporate Affairs Executive: MTN SA.

MTN also outperformed competitors at the end of 2020 with a Network Quality Score of 9.86; and the company says it is well on-track to replicating this performance in 2022.

“This result reflects the tireless work on the ground by our teams to ensure our customers enjoy the best experience on our network,” added O’Sullivan.

MTN SA now has 900 5G sites nationally, with plans to significantly scale up should it be allocated required high demand spectrum.

With an ambition to drive digital change, the company is also accelerating the fintech business launched in February 2020, scaling to 3.4 million registered users, surpassing progress made in the previous launches.

MTN SA has also spent R3.2 billion in the half year to June 2021 on constant infrastructure upgrades, innovation and development. This was an increase of 7.1% the previous year.

The telco’s major focus on education support has also helped drive usage as it zero-rated over 1000 public service, educational and university websites.

MTN plans to ensure it maintains the number one position for the fourth year in a row in 2022.

“We have built significant equity in our approach to network communications over the last four years and our focus is on constantly improving the lives of consumers, businesses, and home offices, as well as ensuring South Africans youth can achieve their best by being connected to the best,” concludes O’Sullivan.
