During the Chartered Institute of Directors Nigeria’s Annual Fellows Investiture, an urgent call was made to address corporate governance pitfalls by harnessing the potential of technology. The event, themed ‘Leveraging technology for improved governance in the 21st century,’ took place in Lagos.

Mr. ‘DeRemi Atanda, the Managing Director of Remita Payment Services Limited, emphasized the need for directors to employ technology in order to facilitate coordination and communication, thus preventing further corporate governance lapses. He urged directors to assume a more proactive role in conveying their businesses’ value within an interconnected digital world.

Newly inducted fellows were charged with the ongoing responsibility of elevating corporate governance in Nigeria by effectively employing technology. Atanda underscored that governance failures have far-reaching consequences and should be actively minimized. Directors were urged to ensure transparency for stakeholders, embrace technology as a cornerstone of effective governance, and establish sustainable structures and processes.

Alhaji Tijjani Borodo, President and Chairman of the Council of the Institute of Directors Nigeria, affirmed the significance of the annual event as a cherished tradition. It is an occasion to recognize and honor members for their unwavering dedication and substantial contributions to the institute and the nation’s advancement.

Borodo acknowledged the evolving complexity of the corporate landscape, driven by contemporary challenges and peculiarities. He encouraged the newly inducted fellows to stay resolute and dedicated to issues that foster the positive growth and development of CIoD Nigeria.

The institute awarded fellowships to distinguished members who had demonstrated excellence in their service to the institute and made notable contributions to their companies and the Nigerian business community.

Borodo outlined the institute’s commitment to promoting growth and innovation through policy advocacy and progressive practices, grounded in the “3Rs” principle: review, reform, and reinvigoration of CIoD Nigeria’s membership and branch development. He reminded the inductees of the honor and responsibility associated with their esteemed status and their essential role in advancing the institute’s mission.
