Worldcoin has launched a limited access Developer Preview program for its new blockchain platform, World Chain. This program, announced earlier this year, invites developers worldwide to engage with the platform, explore its digital ID integration capabilities, develop applications, and test functionalities.
This initiative aims to gather essential feedback from developers, helping to optimize the World Chain platform before its public release later this summer. Developers can set up their deployments in preparation for the migration of over 10 million users from the OP Mainnet to World Chain.
The OP Stack, which powers World Chain, is a modular framework designed for Layer 2 (L2) scaling. It integrates with the Worldcoin protocol and is secured by the Ethereum blockchain. During the developer preview phase, Reth, a high-performance Ethereum execution client, will operate in shadow mode.

World Chain prioritizes transactions from verified human users, identified through their WorldID and iris biometrics, over bots. This ensures a better user experience with low fees and reliable transactions, addressing common scalability issues and excessive resource usage by bots in the blockchain.
With World Chain, transactions from verified users will be processed faster when the chain is at full capacity. This approach ensures that real people, who typically conduct only a few transactions a month, enjoy a better experience. Bots and frequent users may experience longer wait times.
Additionally, “verified humans” receive a small amount of free gas (transaction fuel) every month when using World Chain. This allows new users to interact with on-chain applications without dealing with token conversions or KYC processes. Power users who exhaust their free gas allocation can use Worldcoin tokens to cover additional gas fees.
Worldcoin has partnered with Alchemy for the launch of World Chain and plans to integrate the World ID digital identity, promoting its growth as an internet infrastructure. The platform is supported by partners including Safe and Elliptic, and Worldcoin is planning further collaborations with node providers, analytics companies, wallet infrastructure providers, block explorers, and bridges.
