After months of anticipation and teasing by former CEO Elon Musk, the popular social media platform Twitter has undergone a major rebranding, becoming X. The transformation includes bidding farewell to its iconic bluebird logo and adopting a simple letter X as its new symbol. Additionally, the platform’s color scheme has shifted from blue to black.

As part of this rebranding effort, Twitter’s URL has been changed to x.com, a domain name previously associated with Musk’s 1999 financial services startup, which was eventually sold to PayPal.

X.com was an early online bank, initially funded by Musk and Greg Kouri, who later contributed to funding Musk’s other ventures, including Tesla and SpaceX.

The letter X holds significance across several of Musk’s business interests, from SpaceX to Tesla car models.

In March, Musk established X Corp. as the parent company of Twitter, paving the way for the platform’s rebranding. This move aligns with Musk’s vision of creating a “super app” with diverse functionalities. Twitter recently introduced a new feature that enables users to access the crypto market and other financial services from within the app.

Musk’s tenure as the head of Twitter has been marked by controversy from the beginning. However, his plans to transform the platform began long before his takeover.

In a recent interview, Musk reiterated that the primary motive behind the rebranding to X is to create an “everything app,” a concept that has gained popularity in China. Chinese social media apps, such as WeChat, offer text and video calls, along with integrated features for bill payments, ride-hailing, restaurant reservations, and other financial activities, all within the same app.

Musk envisions X becoming a prominent platform for finance, banking, payments, and data, with the potential to eventually encompass “half of the global financial system.”

However, the rebranding of Twitter has not garnered unanimous support from users, with many expressing their attachment to the familiar blue bird logo and doubting the appeal of the new concept.
