Indonesia is enhancing its digital identity infrastructure with the launch of two integrated channels designed to streamline digital service access for its citizens.

According to an announcement from the Ministry of State Apparatus Utilization and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB), citizens can now obtain and authenticate their digital identities through either the INA Pass app or the Public Service Portal. This integrated approach is the result of a collaboration between the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Communication and Information.

Minister of PANRB, Abdullah Azwar Anas, emphasized the importance of digital ID issuance for the effective utilization of the Electronic-Based Government System (SPBE). He noted that this initiative will significantly simplify access to a range of government services.

Anas outlined that the Ministry of Home Affairs will focus on enhancing the biometric liveness detection capabilities of the INA Pass app, while the Ministry of Communication and Information will develop the Single Sign-On (SSO) system for the Public Service Portal. These measures aim to improve the efficiency of accessing digital ID and authentication services.

In addition, Indonesia’s Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) has renewed its partnership with BPJS Employment, the country’s workers’ security and social welfare program, for the fourth time. Established in 2013, this partnership has been crucial for verifying citizen data and facilitating access to benefits. BPJS Employment, known for its extensive access to citizen data, will use Dukcapil’s database to streamline social welfare registration and verification, leveraging digital ID data to improve service delivery for workers.

Principal Director of BPJS Employment, Anggoro Eko Cahyo, praised the renewed partnership, highlighting its role in broadening access to services for beneficiaries through various channels.

As part of its digital transformation agenda, Indonesia is encouraging all government services to allocate budgets from September for the development and promotion of digital services for the 2025 financial year. The country is recognized for its advancements in digital safety net programs, supported by World Bank funding for its digital identification project.
