The digital revolution underway on the African continent is a huge opportunity. However, in order to fully develop and be a source of socio-economic progress, this ecosystem needs to be developed.
Egypt and Germany plan to continue their cooperation in the field of digital transformation. The issue was addressed by the Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, and the German Ambassador to Cairo, Frank Hartmann, during a meeting between the two men on Tuesday, March 28 in Cairo.
According to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), the two parties examined current and future ICT cooperation projects in the two countries, including the “Supporting e-Government and Innovation in the Public Administration (InnoPA)” project, in partnership with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
“During the meeting, the ICT Minister stressed MCIT’s desire to take advantage of the distinguished expertise of the German side in computing and research and development (R&D) based on modern technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation,” the statement reports.
Indeed, for many years, Germany has ranked among the most developed IT countries in the world. According to the Digital Quality of Life Index (DQL Index), the world ranking of countries according to digital quality of life published in October 2022, Germany occupies the 3rd position just behind Israel, Denmark. The barometer takes into account 5 criteria: the quality of the Internet connection, e-government, countries’ cyber-infrastructure, Internet accessibility and cybersecurity capabilities.
By strengthening this collaboration, Egypt hopes to be able to take advantage of the German experience for the realization of the various projects included in its digital strategy for the 2022-2026 relocation industry, as well as the outsourcing and training of talents capable of exporting ICT services.
On the German side, Frank Hartmann said that his country wants to open its market in order to benefit from the pool of Egyptian talent working freelance in the IT sector.
