A recent report by GSMA Intelligence highlights a growing trend among enterprises to prioritize cybersecurity and revenue growth over cost-cutting in their digital transformation strategies.

The research, titled “The Rise of Digital Industries: Navigating Enterprise Needs, Investments, and Supplier Decisions,” reveals that 60% of businesses are shifting their focus towards enhancing customer experience, improving competitive positioning, and driving revenue growth rather than merely cutting costs.

A Strategic Shift in Digital Transformation

The GSMA report underscores a significant change in how companies are approaching digital transformation, with an increasing emphasis on safeguarding digital assets and ensuring business continuity in the face of rising cyber threats.

Furthermore, the report highlights a strong investment trajectory, with enterprises planning to allocate a greater portion of their revenue to digital technologies over the next six years. Businesses surveyed expect to invest 9% of their revenue in digital technologies between 2024 and 2026, increasing to 11% from 2027 to 2030. This growing commitment reflects the pivotal role of digital innovation and infrastructure in driving competitive advantage.

Supplier Collaboration in the Digital Era

As enterprises accelerate their digital transformation journeys, they are engaging with a diverse range of suppliers to meet their technological needs. The report reveals a preference for generalist suppliers, such as hyperscalers and telecom network and equipment vendors, which provide comprehensive, full-stack solutions.

Opportunities for Tech Providers

Pablo Iacopino, Head of Research at GSMA Intelligence, stated, “Enterprises of all sizes are eager to advance their digital transformation and are making the necessary investment. As a result, supplier competition is fierce.”

Iacopino emphasized the need for telecom operators to expand beyond traditional network services, noting that enterprises are increasingly seeking partners capable of supporting their entire digital transformation journey. Technologies like 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and cloud solutions are seen as critical to improving efficiency, security, and revenue generation.

Overcoming Deployment Challenges

The report also identifies the cost of implementation and the complexity of technology integration as the top challenges enterprises face in deploying digital solutions. This underscores the rising demand for tech orchestrators—providers capable of seamlessly integrating multiple technologies and services.

“This presents new opportunities for multi-service suppliers,” Iacopino added, highlighting the evolving role of tech providers in helping enterprises navigate their digital transformation journeys.

The GSMA report signals a clear shift in priorities, with businesses recognizing the need for robust cybersecurity measures and strategic investments in digital infrastructure to thrive in an increasingly competitive and interconnected global economy.
