The Lagos State Government has advanced its efforts to meet its 2025 revenue goals by equipping 450 revenue officers with expertise in the Lagos Revenue Portal (LRP) and its Artificial Intelligence-powered chatbot, “Madam Shikini.”

This initiative, spearheaded by the Office of the Special Adviser on Taxation and Revenue, brought together participants from over 100 revenue-generating Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

Speaking during the training, the Special Adviser on Taxation and Revenue, Ogungbo Opeyemi, lauded the commitment of Lagos State’s civil servants, describing them as “Champions” driving the state’s impressive revenue performance.

“The remarkable progress we’ve achieved in revenue generation would not have been possible without the unwavering dedication of every one of you,” Ogungbo stated.

He highlighted the August 2024 launch of the LRP by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, designed to transform revenue collection in the state. To ensure system-wide adoption, the governor issued a directive requiring all revenue-generating MDAs to integrate into the LRP, envisioned as a unified hub for revenue operations.

“As we embark on this pivotal training, it is essential to align ourselves with the state’s mandate of integrating all MDAs into a single, unified revenue framework,” Ogungbo emphasized.

Central to the reforms is the implementation of a Unique Payer ID, which facilitates secure, transparent, and efficient tracking of all revenue transactions.

“This integration underscores the importance of the Unique Payer ID, which ensures seamless monitoring of revenue activities in a secure and transparent manner,” Ogungbo added.

In an interview, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Corporate Finance and Strategy, Akintayo Sanwo-Olu, stressed the importance of tax compliance and the need for citizens and public officials alike to fulfill their obligations.

“This training is part of broader efforts to educate and engage stakeholders, ensuring civil servants understand the reasons behind our intensified revenue drive,” Akintayo explained.

He further noted that achieving the 2025 revenue targets requires every officer to comprehend their role in the administration’s fiscal strategy.

“It is imperative that everyone in our administration is fully aware of their responsibilities to ensure we meet and exceed our revenue objectives,” Akintayo added.

The training reflects Lagos State’s commitment to adopting technology-driven solutions to enhance its tax system, aligning with its broader vision of achieving sustainable revenue growth and financial transparency.
