Zimbabweans living and working in South Africa now have a seamless way to send money home, thanks to a new partnership between MTN MoMo and EcoCash, Zimbabwe’s leading mobile money platform.
This collaboration combines the widespread adoption of MTN’s MoMo app with the extensive reach of EcoCash, operated by Econet Wireless, offering a fast, secure, and affordable way for users to transfer money directly into EcoCash wallets in Zimbabwe.
Simplifying Cross-Border Money Transfers
Kagiso Mothibi, CEO of Fintech at MTN South Africa, highlighted the benefits of this innovative partnership:
“Zimbabweans in South Africa using MTN MoMo can now easily send money to their loved ones via the EcoCash link within the MoMo SA App. This eliminates the reliance on costly and time-consuming traditional remittance methods.”
The “Send Money Across Africa” feature integrated into the MoMo app enables users to transfer funds in real time. Recipients in Zimbabwe can instantly access the transferred money through their EcoCash wallets.
Low Fees and Flexible Withdrawals
A standout feature of the partnership is EcoCash’s affordable remittance fee structure. Additionally, recipients in Zimbabwe have the option to withdraw funds in South African Rands or US Dollars at any of EcoCash’s 9,000 service points nationwide, providing them with greater flexibility and convenience.
