Starlink has announced a temporary suspension of its recent price hike in Nigeria as it addresses ongoing regulatory issues. “Last month, we increased the monthly service price for Starlink in Nigeria to account for inflation, helping us maintain operations and continue delivering reliable service. Today, we are temporarily suspending this price increase as we navigate regulatory challenges,” the company stated.

Previously, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) had expressed concerns over the unapproved price adjustment, which Starlink had cited as necessary due to “excessive levels of inflation.” This statement, though later retracted, raised questions about Starlink’s adherence to local regulatory requirements.

In early October, Starlink raised its monthly subscription rates, doubling the cost of the standard residential plan to ₦75,000 (approximately $48) from ₦38,000 ($24), while the price for the Starlink kit remained at ₦440,000. The regional roaming fee — for users accessing Starlink services across multiple African locations — also surged to ₦167,000 from ₦49,000, while international roaming was priced at ₦717,000 monthly.

Starlink assured customers already charged at the higher rate that they would receive a one-time credit on their accounts to compensate for the difference, adding that subscribers may cancel their service at any time.

In a similar development, Starlink recently increased its kit price in Zimbabwe from $350 to $389, following its arrival in the country’s telecom sector. The introduction of Starlink has spurred local ISPs in Zimbabwe to cut prices to stay competitive, with demand pushing some consumers to order directly from Starlink’s website instead of relying on local resellers who previously charged premiums for the equipment.
