Kenyan digital commerce startup Tappi has partnered with Safaricom’s M-PESA to deliver innovative digital tools to over 650,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Kenya. This collaboration aims to enhance the online presence and credibility of these businesses, marking a major step forward in Tappi’s growth trajectory over the past year.

Through the M-PESA For Business Super App, which serves over 50 million monthly users across several African countries, Tappi becomes one of the first mini apps to integrate with the platform. Targeting SMEs with M-PESA’s business till number, Tappi offers a subsidized package to help merchants establish an online presence, gather verified customer reviews, and expand their reach.

For approximately $11, merchants receive a free webpage, 50 SMS/WhatsApp reviews that integrate directly into their websites, and 250 bulk SMS marketing credits. Additionally, the M-PESA Ratiba automated payment solution, now included within the Tappi mini app, enables business owners to handle recurring payments seamlessly.

“This partnership is a landmark achievement for Tappi and a significant endorsement of the value that Safaricom and Tappi bring to MSMEs across Kenya,” said Kenfield Griffith, CEO and Co-Founder of Tappi. “M-PESA has been vital for local entrepreneurs, and our tools will help them attract new customers and build a robust online presence.”

The partnership initially targets 300,000 users of the M-PESA For Business app, starting with a launch group of 250 businesses from sectors like food, fashion, health, and beauty. Tappi’s solutions will complement M-PESA’s existing features, including transaction tracking, statement access, and payment processing.

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa remarked, “We’re thrilled to have Tappi as our first mini-app partner on the M-PESA Business app. This collaboration empowers our merchants with affordable, innovative tools to grow their businesses, improve customer experience, and drive economic growth in Kenya.”
