FBN Holdings Appoints Wale Oyedeji as Group Managing Director

FBN Holdings Plc, one of Nigeria’s foremost financial institutions, has named Adebowale Wale Oyedeji as its new Group Managing Director (GMD), effective from November 13, 2024. Oyedeji, a seasoned banker with over 30 years of experience, will succeed Nnamdi Okonkwo, who will retire after a successful tenure. His appointment is pending regulatory approval and shareholder ratification.

With a robust career in the banking industry, Oyedeji brings a wealth of expertise and leadership to FBN Holdings. His previous roles include Managing Director/CEO of Nova Commercial Bank and senior leadership positions at Guaranty Trust Bank and Stanbic IBTC Bank, establishing him as a key figure in Nigeria’s financial sector.

Oyedeji holds a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan and a Master’s degree in Financial Economics from the University of London. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and an alumnus of Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program.

His professional background is highlighted by his tenure as Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank UK from 2008 to 2011 and his role as Executive Director of the Corporate Banking Group at Guaranty Trust Bank Plc. He also served as an Independent Non-Executive Director at Stanbic IBTC Bank, further showcasing his extensive experience in corporate banking and financial management.

At FBN Holdings, Oyedeji will spearhead the company’s new 5-year strategic plan, guiding both the holding company and its subsidiaries toward sustainable growth and innovation. His leadership is expected to strengthen FBN’s position as a leading financial services provider in Nigeria.

Commenting on Oyedeji’s appointment, FBN Holdings’ Group Chairman, Mr. Femi Otedola, CON, remarked, “The Board is delighted to welcome Wale Oyedeji to the Holdco.
