Nigeria: Finance Minister Edun Commends SecureID for Advancing Nigeria’s Digital Transformation

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, recently commended SecureID Limited, a leader in smartcard manufacturing, for its substantial role in advancing Nigeria’s digital initiatives.

During a visit to SecureID Limited’s headquarters, Minister Edun was particularly impressed by the facility’s annual production capacity of 200 million cards, which includes crucial identifiers such as voter registration and national identity cards. He praised the company for its innovative strategies and significant achievements in setting a sustainable and admirable business model.

“You are cultivating a dynamic and forward-thinking organization that not only has achieved great things but also has established a foundation for future accomplishments in a sustainable and exemplary way. A strong brand is emerging here,” Edun remarked.

The purpose of the visit was to provide the Minister with a firsthand understanding of SecureID’s advanced manufacturing capabilities, its adherence to global standards, and its use of cutting-edge technology in smartcard production.

Edun also acknowledged SecureID and its subsidiaries for their substantial contributions to the Nigerian economy, notably in job creation and improving service delivery. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting local businesses that focus on domestic production and reduce reliance on imported services.

During the discussions, the focus was placed on vital topics such as integrating backend services, advancing financial technology, localizing eSIM technology, and managing data enrollment for national identification purposes.

Kofo Akinkugbe, Group Managing Director of SecureID, welcomed the possibility of enhanced cooperation with the government, emphasizing the potential benefits to Nigeria’s digital framework. He also highlighted the company’s role in fostering economic growth through local manufacturing and its export activities across 21 African countries.

SecureID operates with global partnerships and certifications from major card associations like MasterCard, VISA, Verve, as well as GSMA/SAS and CQM, to produce high-security cards within Nigeria.
