The Kano State government is set to enhance the practice of traditional medicine through a series of initiatives, including training programs, partnerships with healthcare institutions, and the establishment of a regulatory board.
Governor Abba Yusuf announced these plans during the inauguration of the Kano State Task Force Committee on Immunisation. He commended traditional medicine practitioners for their valuable contributions to the state’s healthcare sector and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery.
Governor Yusuf emphasized the importance of integrating traditional medicine with modern healthcare practices, noting that collaboration between the two sectors is crucial for advancing healthcare in the state. The government’s initiatives aim to modernize traditional medicine practices, improve their safety and effectiveness, and ensure they are more closely aligned with the broader healthcare system.
The governor’s plans include supporting traditional medicine vendors through comprehensive training programs and fostering partnerships with established healthcare institutions. These efforts are designed to enhance the skills of traditional medicine practitioners and bring their practices up to modern standards.
Shaba Maikudi, the national president of the traditional medicine association, expressed his gratitude during the committee’s inauguration. He praised Governor Yusuf for his commitment to revitalizing the healthcare sector and for paying special attention to the needs of the traditional medicine community. Maikudi also called on the governor to establish a traditional medicine board to further integrate these practices into the state’s healthcare system, ensuring that traditional medicine continues to play a vital role in the health and well-being of Kano’s residents.
