The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population revealed the introduction of early detection of phenylketonuria in newborns through the national program for the early detection of diseases that cause disability.
The ministry also stated opening genetic counseling clinics and treatment centers, as part of the ministry’s bid to combat all diseases and health problems related to disability in children.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population said in press statements that the ministry was able to support and provide therapeutic milk (infant formula) through 50 treatment centers.
He further expained that a program for early detection of hearing disabilities and a comprehensive hearing survey for newborns and children was launched.
Other programs that were launch include a program for the early detection of 19 genetic diseases for newborns, as well as the National Autism Spectrum Survey.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar explained that 10,803 medical convoys were launched in all governorates of the Republic during the recent period, and benefited 16,749,994 hesitators in services (examination and treatment, blood and parasite analyzes, X-rays, urtlasound, health education referral to hospitals).
In April, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi directed the competent national authorities to coordinate and cooperate with Lacto Misr company to enhance the local production capacity of infant formula, in accordance with the advanced technology in this field.
The production status of the infant formula was presented by Lacto Misr company. Lacto Misr owns the largest factory for the production of baby milk in Egypt, the Middle East, and Africa and uses the latest global technology in this field. It produces special baby foods, supplements, and food ingredients. The company also has high control measures in place to ensure the quality and safety of the products.
