Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has directed the government to extend health insurance coverage to 8.5 million individuals, including beneficiaries of the Takaful and Karama program and irregular workers in the construction and building sectors. This initiative, costing EGP 10 billion (approximately $205 million) annually, is part of a broader strategy to enhance social protection and human development in the country.
During a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, El-Sisi reviewed the progress of the National Project for Human Development, titled “A New Beginning for Building Humans.” This ambitious project aims to improve investment in human capital through a comprehensive approach that includes health, education, culture, sports, and job creation, with the collaboration of state agencies, civil society, and the private sector.
President El-Sisi underscored the critical importance of human capital in Egypt’s development and urged the swift completion of executive plans for the initiative. The meeting also covered initiatives to localize the pharmaceutical industry and tackle supply chain challenges, which are crucial for ensuring the availability of essential medicines.
Additionally, El-Sisi reviewed ongoing presidential initiatives focused on public health and mental health. He instructed the expansion of mental health services and the establishment of new treatment centers, including the Sakina Psychiatric Hospital and Addiction Treatment facility in New Alamein City.
These efforts reflect the government’s commitment to improving the well-being of its citizens and advancing the nation’s social and economic development.
