Veeam Software has announced the launch of a new Splunk extension, enabling Veeam Data Platform customers to monitor the health and security status of their Veeam backup infrastructure more effectively.
The Veeam App for Splunk integrates seamlessly with Splunk, a leading security information and event management (SIEM) solution, allowing security professionals to leverage Splunk’s capabilities to keep a close eye on their Veeam backup environments. This was revealed in a press release issued by Veeam on Tuesday, July 23.
“Veeam is committed to ensuring data resilience for all our customers, which includes robust integration with top security platforms,” stated John Jester, Chief Revenue Officer at Veeam. “With this new integration, security professionals can use Splunk to monitor their Veeam backup environments through comprehensive dashboards, reports, and alerts.”
The Veeam App for Splunk supports Splunk user roles and location management, processing events from Veeam Backup & Replication to the syslog server. Additionally, the app offers features such as severity level management for events and alerts, support for multiple data source locations, role-based permissions for locations, and app configuration backup.
This new tool comes at a critical time, as 76% of organizations reported experiencing a ransomware attack in the past year, with 93% of those attacks targeting data backups, according to the release.
“Effective cyberattack defense requires integration across your infrastructure,” Jester added. “The Veeam App for Splunk brings Veeam event data into Splunk, enabling customers to monitor security events like ransomware, accidental deletion, malware, and other cyber threats using their existing tools.”
In recent news, Splunk was acquired by networking giant Cisco, with the $28 billion deal finalizing in March. Initially announced in September 2023, the acquisition aimed to enhance clients’ security and observability efforts through artificial intelligence (AI).
Cisco highlighted that the combined capabilities of Cisco and Splunk in AI, security, and observability would help businesses become more secure and digitally resilient. “From threat detection and response to threat prediction and prevention, we will help make organizations of all sizes more secure and resilient,” said Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins.
