However, <strong>Uganda and Burundi<\/strong> are also experiencing significant surges in infections.<\/p>\n<p>Several other African nations, including <strong>Kenya, Rwanda, and Zambia<\/strong>, have reported evidence of community transmission, signaling the virus\u2019s continued expansion. Meanwhile, <strong>Zimbabwe<\/strong> has documented travel-related cases of Clade 1b, raising concerns about cross-border transmission.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond Africa, <strong>38 cases of Clade 1b mpox have been reported in 13 countries<\/strong>, though no fatalities have been recorded so far.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Alarming Global Infection Rates<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As of the end of 2024, <strong>mpox cases had surpassed 125,000 worldwide<\/strong>, with confirmed infections reported in more than <strong>100 countries<\/strong>. WHO continues to monitor the outbreak closely, urging nations to strengthen public health responses.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Understanding Mpox and Its Risks<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Mpox is primarily transmitted through <strong>close physical contact<\/strong> with an infected person. The virus typically causes symptoms such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Fever<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Muscle aches<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Painful, boil-like skin lesions<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While most cases are mild, mpox <strong>can be fatal<\/strong>, particularly in individuals with weakened immune systems or underlying health conditions.<\/p>\n<p>WHO has emphasized the <strong>need for increased surveillance, early detection, and timely intervention<\/strong> to curb further spread of the virus.
