Recognized for its pioneering efforts in fertility and reproductive health, the center is extending its impact through partnerships, including a collaboration with the FCT administration to donate cancer screening equipment. This initiative aligns with the government’s efforts to combat non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and enhance the healthcare system.

During a recent teleconference, Dr. Abayomi Ajayi, Medical Director and CEO of Nordica, reflected on the clinic’s decade-long impact, sharing insights into the advanced medical solutions introduced to benefit fertility patients. “Since establishing ourselves in Abuja, we’ve aimed to bring globally recognized innovations to Nigeria,” said Ajayi. “For example, we were the first to use a unique stimulation regimen for patients, reducing the risk of hyperstimulation—a life-threatening IVF complication—to almost zero. I can confidently say no patient at our clinic has been admitted for hyperstimulation in the last 10 years.”

Dr. Ajayi also highlighted the center’s focus on addressing male infertility, noting that studies identified it as a significant issue in the region. To tackle this, Nordica became the first in Nigeria to implement advanced techniques like intracytoplasmic morphologically selected sperm injection (IMSI) and physiological intracytoplasmic sperm injection (PICSI). Additionally, Nordica pioneered non-invasive pre-implantation genetic testing (PGT) in Nigeria, allowing for embryo testing without biopsies—a procedure for which it remains the only licensed clinic in the country.

Recent advancements include introducing High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) technology, offering non-surgical fibroid treatment. “Since July, we’ve successfully treated 20 to 23 patients with HIFU at the Abuja center, demonstrating the demand for this minimally invasive option in the North Central region,” Ajayi said.

Reflecting on Nordica’s milestone, Ajayi emphasized the resilience of the Abuja facility in an economic climate that has posed significant challenges for private healthcare providers. “In the past decade, many private health centers in Nigeria have closed due to economic pressures. However, Nordica Abuja has thrived, driven by our dedication to quality healthcare,” he explained.

Ajayi acknowledged the financial realities, including inflation and currency exchange rates, which have strained operations. “As a private institution, financing advanced healthcare services like ours requires considerable investment, often through loans. Despite these challenges, our team remains committed to supporting quality healthcare,” he added.

The 12-year milestone of Abuja Nordica Fertility Centre reflects the center’s dedication to healthcare innovation and its role in strengthening the FCT’s medical landscape. Dr. Ajayi expressed pride in the facility’s contributions, noting, “Our achievements deserve recognition and encouragement as we continue to improve healthcare access.”

In alignment with its commitment to corporate social responsibility, Nordica is advancing plans to introduce new medical technologies to the Abuja facility. “Our recent donation of cancer screening equipment underscores our commitment to supporting healthcare resources in the FCT,” Ajayi shared. “Being situated in the nation’s capital, these developments represent our mission to elevate healthcare access in Abuja.”

The Abuja Nordica Fertility Centre marked its 12th anniversary with a renewed commitment to delivering accessible, innovative, and high-quality healthcare to residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
