The event, held on Tuesday, was organized by the Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area in collaboration with MTN Momo, the fintech arm of MTN Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Ogunlende called for a united effort from stakeholders and concerned citizens to combat drug abuse in communities, stressing its profound impact on public health and safety. He lamented the severe consequences of substance abuse, which includes health complications and accidents leading to loss of life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis issue affects us all,\u201d Ogunlende stated. \u201cWe cannot ignore it or assume it doesn&#8217;t concern us because we don\u2019t partake in drug use.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He emphasized the importance of treating drug abuse as a critical issue, requiring ongoing involvement from everyone. The commissioner underscored the need for partnerships between the government and private sector to effectively address the crisis.<\/p>\n<p>The Lagos State Government\u2019s commitment to tackling drug abuse is exemplified by the launch of the \u2018Lagos Kicks Against Drug Abuse\u2019 campaign. Ogunlende highlighted the importance of continuous efforts to ensure a safer and more prosperous Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>He also praised Lagos youth for their disciplined conduct during the #EndBadGovernance protests and assured them that the state government values their contribution. Ogunlende encouraged young people to leverage opportunities such as the state\u2019s \u201cStudents Loan\u201d scheme for empowerment.<\/p>\n<p>Acknowledging the efforts of Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA Chairman, Mr. Fuad Atanda-Lawal, for his focus on women\u2019s empowerment, Ogunlende urged him to maintain his support for youth initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>The empowerment program, which provided 1,000 women with N50,000 each, was attended by lawmakers, traditional leaders, and APC officials.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mobolaji Ogunlende, Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, has labeled drug abuse a pandemic in the state, highlighting the urgent need for collective action.
