Healthtech company\u00a0Tivic<\/a>\u00a0said has abandoned plans to acquire wearables firm\u00a0Reliefband<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The decision was driven by\u00a0\u201cvolatile\u201d capital market conditions<\/a>, Tivic CEO\u00a0Jennifer Ernst<\/a>\u00a0said in a news release. The companies had initially agreed to the acquisition in October.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe relationship between Tivic Health and Reliefband management remains on good terms despite both teams\u2019 disappointment in the outcome,\u201d said Ernst. \u201cWe remain committed to our growth strategy and will continue to evaluate M&A, licensing, and partnership opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tivic, based in San Francisco, makes \u201cnon-invasive bioelectronic treatments\u201d to help people suffering from inflammation and related conditions. Realiefband, headquartered near Philadelphia, manufactures wearable technology for nausea and vomiting.<\/p>\n

Last month, the\u00a0Walgreens<\/a>-owned health provider\u00a0VillageMD<\/a>\u00a0announced its\u00a0purchase\u00a0of\u00a0Summit Health<\/a>, which operates the CityMD chain of urgent care centers, for a staggering $8.9 billion. The combined City-Village-MD network, as the juxtaposition of names suggests, will have a wide geographic reach \u2014 covering 680 provider locations in 26 markets.<\/p>\n

The VillageMD and Summit Health deal is more than double the size of Amazon\u2019s $3.9 billion acquisition of One Medical and demonstrates how the industry is reacting to the tech giant\u2019s plans for the sector.<\/p>\n

Smaller players have been consolidating as well, with Sanford Health and Fairview Health Services combining to form a 58-hospital system serving patients throughout the Midwest.<\/p>\n

And in mid-November, the HealthTech firm Wheel announced it would purchase the back-end\u00a0virtual care technology of GoodRX Care\u00a0to strengthen Wheel\u2019s virtual-first care platform and accelerate its growth into new markets.<\/p>\n
