The Federal Government of Nigeria is deepening its commitment to advancing healthcare service delivery through innovative collaborations with the private sector. The Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain (PVAC), in partnership with the Healthcare Federation of Nigeria (HFN), is spearheading initiatives designed to unlock the potential of the nation’s healthcare system.
In line with this effort, PVAC and HFN have launched a platform where local healthcare companies can pitch their innovative solutions. This initiative aims to showcase the companies’ capabilities in addressing critical challenges within Nigeria’s healthcare sector and provide them with opportunities to secure funding and support.
At a recent pitch event organized by HFN and PVAC, 14 local companies were selected to present their innovative healthcare solutions to a panel of experts. The event provided a dynamic stage for companies to display cutting-edge technologies and strategies that could revolutionize Nigeria’s healthcare landscape.
PVAC National Coordinator, Abdu Mukhtar, emphasized the government’s unwavering dedication to creating an enabling environment for healthcare innovation. In his keynote address, Mukhtar stated, “This initiative is a crucial part of our broader vision to unlock Nigeria’s healthcare potential by empowering local companies to lead the way in innovation. Through partnerships like this, we are enabling the private sector to thrive and contribute meaningfully to healthcare development.”
The pitch event attracted key stakeholders, including Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi; former Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah; and Ajibola Olomola, Partner and Head of Deal Advisory at KPMG West Africa. Each participating company had the opportunity to present their strategic ideas to healthcare professionals and investors.
Mukhtar reiterated the importance of supporting local innovation, stating, “Our goal is to ensure that homegrown businesses receive the backing they need to succeed. We are committed to creating pathways for Nigerian healthcare entrepreneurs to scale their innovations and, in turn, build a stronger healthcare system.”
HFN President, Dr. Pamela Ajayi, echoed similar sentiments in her opening remarks, stressing the federation’s commitment to fostering indigenous innovation. “We are proud to partner with PVAC to offer this platform and excited to see the transformative impact these innovations will have on Nigeria’s healthcare system. This event is part of HFN’s broader efforts to create pathways for private sector healthcare companies to gain visibility, secure funding, and drive meaningful change.”
Prof. Abayomi, while commending HFN and PVAC for their efforts, highlighted the role such initiatives play in addressing Nigeria’s brain drain. “By showcasing the incredible talent and innovation within the country, we are demonstrating that Nigeria is fertile ground for impactful healthcare solutions. Initiatives like this not only drive innovation but also encourage Nigerian professionals abroad to return and contribute to healthcare development.”
Former Minister Enelamah, who served as one of the judges, lauded the collaborative effort between HFN and PVAC. “This partnership exemplifies the power of collaboration in healthcare. HFN has successfully convened key stakeholders from both the public and private sectors to drive forward this important initiative.”
The event featured a wide array of innovative solutions from the participating companies, covering key areas such as medical technology, diagnostics, telemedicine, and healthcare delivery systems. The companies received valuable feedback from the expert panel, positioning them to further refine and scale their innovations.
With continued support and collaboration, initiatives like this promise to transform Nigeria’s healthcare system and strengthen its capacity to deliver world-class healthcare solutions.
