To mark the first anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, the Health and Human Services Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has introduced a comprehensive initiative offering free antenatal care and health insurance coverage for pregnant women for one year.
The initiative, named ‘Renewed Hope Free Medical Outreach,’ was unveiled on Monday by Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary of FCTA’s Health Services and Environment Secretariat. Designed specifically for underserved communities in rural areas of Abuja, this program aims to provide essential healthcare services to the poor.
During a visit to the Palace of the Gomo of Kuje, Alhaji Haruna Jubrin, and the Council’s Secretariat, Dr. Fasawe emphasized the importance of ensuring that the initiative benefits the most vulnerable residents. She urged privileged individuals not to take advantage of the program, ensuring it remains accessible to those who truly need it.
In addition to one-year health insurance, the program will offer free eye care, dental services, minor surgeries, and other essential health services. “We are going to provide free medical care, including eye and dental services, and minor surgeries. Pregnant women and their children will receive free insurance for one year. It’s crucial that those who can afford care step aside to allow the less privileged to benefit,” Dr. Fasawe stated.
Dr. Babagana Adams, Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat, encouraged council officials to mobilize those in need and ensure wide participation, stressing that the initiative is meant to serve everyone, regardless of ethnic or religious background.
Supporting the initiative, Alhaji Haruna Jibrin, the Gomo of Kuje, praised the FCTA for this commendable effort and pledged his full support to the program.
