In a bid to enhance Nigeria’s Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs), Orodata Science and the Africa Data Hub have announced the second phase of their innovative data collection and analysis project. The initiative seeks to provide actionable insights for policymakers and citizens to strengthen the country’s primary healthcare system and ensure equitable access to essential health services.
Expanding the Scope of PHC Data Collection
According to a statement issued by Orodata Science on Monday and signed by its Programme Officer, Uche Oti, the second phase follows the success of the initial data collection efforts conducted in six states: Anambra, Benue, Cross River, Osun, Sokoto, and Taraba.
“The expanded project will now cover over 1,000 additional healthcare centres across 10 new states, bringing the total number of surveyed PHCs to more than 1,500,” Mr. Oti stated.
This next phase will evaluate the availability and quality of healthcare services, assess the condition of facilities, identify resource constraints, and uncover gaps in service delivery. The findings will support the development of comprehensive reports and advocacy efforts aimed at improving healthcare outcomes nationwide.
New States for Data Collection
The expanded initiative will focus on PHCs in the following states: Ogun, Edo, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kwara, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Abia, Kano, Kaduna, and Gombe.
Empowering Nigerians Through Data
A key feature of this initiative is the launch of CheckMyPHC.org, a digital platform providing Nigerians with real-time data on the status of PHCs in their communities. This platform aims to empower citizens with information, fostering accountability and transparency in the healthcare sector.
“The data collected will be publicly accessible, enabling both policymakers and citizens to engage with the healthcare system more effectively,” Mr. Oti noted.
Orodata Science: Driving Change Through Technology and Data
As a leading civic technology organization, Orodata Science leverages data science, technology, and research to drive transparency, accountability, and good governance in Nigeria. The organization’s mission is to foster positive social change and strengthen Nigeria’s democratic processes through data-driven initiatives.
The PHC data collection project is one of Orodata’s flagship initiatives, with the aim of delivering a thorough evaluation of healthcare access and quality across the country.
Looking Ahead
The expanded initiative underscores Orodata Science’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery in Nigeria. By providing comprehensive insights into PHCs, the organization hopes to bridge critical gaps in the healthcare system and support informed decision-making for the benefit of all Nigerians.
“Access to quality healthcare is a fundamental human right, and this initiative is a step toward making that right a reality for millions of Nigerians,” Mr. Oti concluded.
